Every July, half of Sunrise Highway seems to be pointed east. The other half is trying to get to Point Lookout. If you live in Merrick, the temptation is to join one of those two lines and call it a summer.
You don't have to. Between mid-July and late August, the town parks a free concert series inside a ten-minute drive of most Merrick front doors, the LIRR commuter lot turns into a carnival midway, and the stretch of Merrick Avenue between Sunrise and Loines does more business than some Hamptons villages. The season is already scheduled around you. This is the guide to using it.
The Concert Calendar Most Neighbors Miss
The Town of Hempstead's Neighborhood Concert Series runs Wednesday through Sunday nights across ten south-shore parks, and Merrick Road Park gets two of the marquee dates on the 2026 slate. Shows start at 7:30 p.m., admission is free, and you bring your own chair. The full Long Island Press summer roundup lists
